Pepe Oriola joins TCR South America grid with W2 Racing

Pepe Oriola will contest the inaugural season of TCR South America after signing to race a Honda Civic Type-R for the Brazilian W2 Racing team.

In recent years Spaniard Oriola has moved around between various different TCR series since he contested the first three seasons of TCR International from 2015 to 2017.

The 27-year-old contested the first season of the FIA World Touring Car Cup in a CUPRA in 2018, before switching to race a Hyundai in TCR Asia in 2019.

Last year he took part in the TCR Europe series in a Brutal Fish Racing-run Honda, ending the year 13th overall in the drivers’ standings.

“I am delighted to return to racing,” said Oriola, who last raced in Brazil when the WTCC visited Curitiba in 2012. “The Civic is the same car that I drove last year in TCR Europe, and I’m glad to offer my experience to the W2 team.

“I am very excited to race in the TCR South America championship. I don’t know my competitors yet, but I am excited to be able to race on famous circuits like Curitiba and Interlagos.

“It will be a very competitive field, but I will make use of my experience to give my very best.”

Oriola’s team-mate will be the Brazilian Raphael Reis.
