Mat’o Homola signs with Janík Motorsport for 2021 TCR Europe

Slovakian racer Mat’o Homola will continue in TCR Europe for a third successive season, racing a Hyundai i30 N TCR for Jantar Team with Janík Motorsport alongside Jáchym Galáš.

Homola has raced in the European TCR series since 2019, each year in Hyundai machinery. The 26-year-old won one race in 2019, and last year he finished seventh overall in the drivers’ championship, one place better than the previous year despite not winning a race.

Prior to TCR Europe, Homola made his début in the FIA European Touring Car Cup in 2012, where he raced until 2016, when he joined the grid of the TCR International Series. He remained in TCR international in 2017, racing with DG Sport Compétition, before moving to the FIA World Touring Car Cup with the team in 2018.

Homola has changed team each year he has raced in TCR Europe, initially competing with Target Competition in 2019 before switching to BRC Racing in 2020 and now Janík Motorsport for 2021.

“We have a simple strategy; kick it off on 100% and increase the pace throughout the season,” said Homola. “It is motorsport, each little detail is crucial as are fast decisions.

“Now I’m focused on the new season. We’ve already started testing the car and I have been working out the last couple of months to be in great shape.

“I know what I want to achieve, and I believe we can do it this year.

“What makes me happy is the Czech and Slovak background of this team. It makes me even more proud to represent Slovakia with my name and a new team. It definitely adds up the motivation.”

Homola will be engineered by Slovak hill climbing legend Jaro Krajci, whilst Homola will also act as a mentor for 19-year-old Czech racer Galáš.

“Jachym wants to get better and I bet our collaboration will help both of us to move forward,” added Homola, who is looking forward to the season opener in his home country in May.

“I’m super excited that we are starting the season at my home track at the Slovakiaring, though I got to admit that I’m going to miss the fans.

“Always when I raced there, thousands of people came to support me, and it created an incredible atmosphere.

“Besides that, it is amazing for Slovak Motorsport, that TCR Europe will come to Slovakia. I’m super motivated and I can’t wait!”
