Esteban Guerrieri among three drivers to be handed post-race penalties

Esteban Guerrieri has been penalised for track limits abuse during the third of today’s FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) races, elevating Jean-Karl Vernay into third place in the overall championship standings.

The stewards judged that after showing Guerrieri the black and white warning flag, he continued to exceed track limits on a further occasion at turn one.

The Argentine has subsequently been dealt a thirty second time penalty, which demotes him from tenth to eighteenth in the final race classification.

This also means that Guerrieri has been deducted the six championship points that he would’ve scored by finishing tenth, promoting Vernay ahead of him into that ‘overall podium’ place in the drivers’ standings that he had been chasing.

Two other drivers have also been awarded thirty second time penalties, this time for their actions during race two, rather than in race three.

Nathanaël Berthon and Bence Boldizs were deemed to be two of the most guilty parties during the early lap fisticuffs that resulted in multiple retirements. However, neither of them made it to the finish either, rendering their penalties rather inconsequential.
