Nathanaël Berthon led an Audi 1-2 in the second World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) practice session at the Slovakiaring, posting a lap time of 2 minutes 10.051 seconds.
The Frenchman had a gap of four tenths of a second back to his DHL Comtoyou Racing team-mate Tom Coronel, who ended up in second place.
Rounding out the top three, Jean-Karl Vernay began to show glimpses of the form that the Team Mulsanne Alfa Romeo Giulietta had at this circuit last year, but team-mate Luca Filippi struggled in comparison down in seventeenth.
The Argentine Münnich Motorsport Honda duo were once again closely matched, however this time around the order was swapped with Esteban Guerrieri going fourth quickest ahead of Néstor Girolami in fifth.
Santiago Urrutia was the best of the Lynk & Co quartet for the second practice session in a row, but this time he was joined in the top ten by stablemate Yvan Muller, the pair of them going sixth and seventh fastest respectively.
Two of the younger drivers on the grid were next up. Attila Tassi wound up in eighth, just eight thousandths of a second quicker than Luca Engstler in the first of the Hyundais.
Mikel Azcona, the pace-setter in free practice one, completed the top ten. It was a much less straightforward affair for the Spaniard this time out, as he ended up producing a lap time nearly a second slower than the one he produced earlier today.
His CUPRA also came to a halt with a potential electrical failure in sector two, with just five minutes of the session to go. This caused the session to be temporarily halted under red flags, but the 24-year-old was eventually able to get the car restarted in order to return to pitlane under his own steam.
Norbert Michelisz was just outside the top ten as the eleventh fastest driver in free practice two. With Nicky Catsburg in sixteenth and Gabriele Tarquini even further off the pace in nineteenth, Hyundai have so far been unable to produce the pace that had been expected of them this weekend.
Qualifying is next up. The session gets underway later this afternoon at 15:30 BST (16:30 CEST).
