Dan Cammish insists title chances ‘not over yet’ despite growing deficit

Dan Cammish insists that his chances of lifting the British Touring Car Championship are ‘not over yet’ even though the Honda driver fell further behind in the championship challenge at Snetterton.

Cammish missed out on the podium in all three races in Norfolk, taking a trio of sixth-place finishes as he was beaten by rivals Colin Turkington and Ash Sutton in all three races.

Challenging cool conditions presented drivers with a fresh headache, and the Yorkshireman found it difficult to make progress to fight for a podium.

Cammish’s charge was not helped by contact with rivals, as fellow Honda racer Josh Cook knocked Cammish down to ninth in race three, from where he was only able to recover to sixth by the chequered flag.

But despite dropping to 25 points behind new points leader Turkington, Cammish believes he still has a good chance of the title.

Last year, heading into the season finale, the Team Dynamics driver was 16 points adrift and almost lifted the title, taking the standings lead in the penultimate race before cruelling crashing out on the last lap of the last race whilst in a title-winning position.

“This was a tough day,” said Cammish. “Our chassis was good, but we seemed to have lost a little straight-line speed which made life difficult, and then in race three I got beat up a bit early on.

“Last year I went to the Brands final 16 points back and came so close to taking the title. This year it’s a bigger points gap but I have to get stuck in and stay positive – it’s not over yet.”

Matt Neal, Team Dynamics Director, focussed on the positives and the fact that Cammish remained in title contention for the Brands Hatch season finale in November.

“There are some days that just don’t go to plan and this was one of them! But the important thing to take away is that we are not out of it.

“We go to Brands Hatch with Dan still in the title race and I will be doing everything I can to help win titles for him and Honda.”
