Antti Buri claimed pole position for the opening TCR Germany race at the Lausitzring, with the series third-most experienced driver taking his first pole in his maiden appearance for Hyundai Team Engstler.
Buri, who has raced in every season of TCR Germany, was a comfortable 0.365 seconds faster than fellow Hyundai driver Jan Seyffert in Q2, as the top four places were locked out by drivers for the South Korean manufacturer.
Buri’s team-mate Nicolas Gruber was third quickest, the Austrian having been closest to pace-setter Buri in Q1.
HP Racing’s Harald Proczyk was just behind his compatriot in fourth, although last year’s drivers’ title runner-up was over seven tenths adrift.
Dominik Fugel emerged as the best of the rest, the Honda driver in fifth and the only other racer within a second of the pace.
2019 title contender Mike Halder was sixth in the second-best Honda, ahead of his sister Michelle Halder in seventh.
René Kircher put his Volkswagen in eighth, whilst the top ten was completed by the Honda of Marcel Fugel and the Hyundai of racer and journalist Guido Naumann.
Race one is scheduled to get underway at 10:15 CEST (09:15 BST) on Sunday.
