TCR Europe calendar to be revised again due to COVID-19

The TCR Europe calendar is to be revised again, following the further postponement of the race at Spa-Francorchamps and the cancellation of what was set to be the season opener at Oschersleben.

The ongoing coronavirus crisis in Europe meant that the original calendar, published in 2019, had to be revised earlier this month, resulting in the season opener moving from Spa-Francorcham,ps at the end of April to Oschersleben at the end of June.

However, the event at Oschersleben scheduled for 26 – 28 June has now been cancelled altogether due to the ban on sporting events and public gatherings in Germany until the end of August.

The TCR Europe series promoter worked together with the local promoters to reschedule the event, but with no spare dates the event is now cancelled altogether.

The planned event at the Red Bull Ring in mid-May had already been cancelled, which had reduced the calendar from seven events to six.

Postponements on the calendar include the race at Spa-Francorchamps (originally set for 24 – 25 July) and Circuit Paul Ricard (originally set for 17 – 19 July).

Only the events in the autumn now hold confirmed dates, with the race at Zolder set for 11 – 13 September being the earliest confirmed event at this stage.

To replace Oschersleben, an event is now planned at Jarama in Spain for an undetermined date.

The series still plans to hold a six-event season in 2020, “starting by the end of August or the beginning of September.”

The new calendar will be communicated in due course.
