Rory Butcher: ‘It’s all to play for’ at Silverstone

Rory Butcher says ‘it’s all to play for’ in the final two British Touring Car Championship rounds of the year, as the AmD Tuning driver heads to Silverstone this weekend looking to close down the 41-point deficit he has in the drivers’ standings.

Butcher heads to the Silverstone National circuit fresh from having secured his first double podium of the year at Knockhill last time out, with the Honda driver also having scored his third win of the year in race one.

The Scot is 41 points behind points leader Colin Turkington but closed the gap on home turf by edging 20 points closer to the BMW leader.

The FK2 Honda Civic has claimed four wins on the short Silverstone National layout before, with Butcher remaining optimistic of being in the mix at the weekend.

“It’s all to play for going into the final two rounds,” said Butcher. “It is nice that we have got to the business end of the season in contention for some silverware, both for myself and for the team.

“On paper, Silverstone is a circuit that should be a good one for us with the Honda, and it is a circuit that I also enjoy racing at.

“What we need to do is work hard on Saturday to get the most from practice and qualifying because that can then set us up for Sunday, as was the case at Knockhill.

“I have a strategy in my mind about how I want to approach this weekend, and the aim is to try and put that into practice to secure as many points as possible and keep my championship challenges on track.

“I can’t control what other people are doing and can only focus on doing the best job possible behind the wheel. That approach has served me well so far this season, and hopefully the same will apply when we get to Silverstone.”
