Andrew Jordan wins Knockhill race two as title rival Colin Turkington fails to score

BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan took victory in the second British Touring Car Championship race at Knockhill while championship leader Colin Turkington failed to score after contact.

Jordan, who started second on the grid, made use of his superior rear-wheel drive traction and got the jump on polesitter Rory Butcher down into turn one, and would not relinquish the lead thereafter.

Behind him, Dan Cammish made a late lunge down the inside of Butcher at the Taylor’s hairpin on lap six, completing the move and allowing reigning champion Turkington to take advantage.

Butcher then fought back on the three-time champion through Duffus Dip and looked down the inside into McIntyre’s, clipping the back of the BMW 3 Series which then lost heaps of time getting out of the gravel trap, eventually finishing 19th and crucially out of the points.

The result means Turkington’s standings advantage is now down to four points from WSR stablemate Jordan, with Dan Cammish just 15 behind.

AmD Tuning’s Butcher, who won the opening race earlier today, managed to hold on to third despite carrying maximum success ballast on the unfavourable medium tyre, while Senna Proctor continued his strong form to end up fourth.

Tom Chilton completed the top five in his Motorbase Performance Ford Focus RS, ahead of 2018 runner-up Tom Ingram who had another top ten in his new-for-2019 Toyota Corolla.

Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan was next, fending off double champion Jason Plato to the flag to come home in seventh and eighth respectively.

BTC Racing’s Josh Cook enjoyed good progress to finish ninth in his FK8 Honda Civic, while Jake Hill’s medium tyre shod Audi S3 completed the top ten – and has been drawn onto reverse-grid pole for race three.

Cook’s team-mate Chris Smiley held on to 11th despite being roughed up ahead of Matt Simpson with Aiden Moffat in the Infiniti Q50 scoring another points finish at his home circuit.

Team BMW’s Tom Oliphant managed 14th ahead of Matt Neal who recovered to score a point in 15th after contact with Ash Sutton in race one meant he started at the back.

The final British Touring Car Championship race of the day at Knockhill is scheduled to get underway at 17:05 BST.
