Dominik Fugel claims pole position at Zandvoort

Dominik Fugel took pole position in qualifying for TCR Germany at Zandvoort in The Netherlands, edging out fellow Honda driver Bradley Burns by just 0.036 seconds.

Honda ADAC Sachsen driver Fugel had earlier been fourth fastest in Q1, before he went fastest in Q2, even though the lap times in the second part of qualifying weren’t quite as quick as earlier in the morning.

Pyro Motorsport’s Burns was second, the Brit being less than a tenth slower than Fugel.

Reigning champion Harald Proczyk was third in the best of the Hyundais, just under half a second off the pace.

The second ADAC Sachsen Honda of Mike Halder was fourth, ahead of the leading Audi of series leader Antti Buri in fifth.

A further full second covered the gap to sixth-placed Theo Coicaud, the Frenchman qualifying his Engstler Motorsport Hyundai 1.8 seconds off the pace.

TOPCAR Sport’s Julien Apotheloz was seventh, ahead of the second Engstler Hyundai of Max Hesse in eighth.

Racing One’s René Kircher and guest driver Lance David Arnold, in the Engstler VIP car, completed the top ten, both over two seconds off the pace.

Race one is scheduled to get underway at 17:20 CEST (16:20 BST).
