Jamie Green to miss Misano due to appendicitis

Audi Sport Team Rosberg driver Jamie Green will be unfit to race this weekend at Misano, Italy, after the British racer developed sudden appendicitis on Tuesday night.

“The symptoms appeared all of a sudden during the night,” Head of Audi Motorsport Deiter Gass revealed, “We all wish Jamie a speedy recovery. He’ll definitely not be fit for racing again this weekend.”

Stepping up to replace Green will be Pietro Fittipaldi, who will move across from his seat at customer Audi Sport Team WRT to drive alongside René Rast.

The 22 year old Brazilian has already shown strong performances in the previous two rounds, twice scoring points and even setting a new lap record at Hockenheim.

The grandson of two-time Formula One World Champion Emerson Fittipaldi, is a test and reserve driver for the Haas Formula One team and was set to not race at Misano this weekend.

However Green’s sudden sickness has resulted in a call up to the Team Rosberg squad.

“For us, Pietro is the best solution,” explained Gass, “He knows the car and showed strong performances in his first two DTM events.”

Green currently sits seventh in the drivers standings on 23 points, after a determined drive to a race two podium at Zolder, with Fittipaldi in 15th. Audi Sport Team Rosberg lead the Teams’ Championship on race wins as they are tied with BMW Team RMR on 79 points.
