Attila Tassi edges out Tom Coronel in first practice at Zandvoort

Attila Tassi headed the times for Honda in first practice for the FIA World Touring Car Cup at Zandvoort, edging out home hero Tom Coronel’s CUPRA by three tenths of a second at the seaside circuit.

Tassi put his KCMG Honda at the top in the closing minutes of the session, edging out Coronel, who also put in a fast lap late on.

Augusto Farfus last won a touring car race at the Dutch circuit back in his second year in the DTM, and the BRC Racing driver ended the session in third, half a tenth further back, having been quickest with two minutes left in the session.

PWR duo Mikel Azcona and Daniel Haglöf were fourth and fifth respectively, meaning that three of the four CUPRAs on the grid were inside the top ten.

Benjamin Leuchter was the top SLR Volkswagen driver in sixth, the German just over six tenths off the pace, ahead of championship leader Néstor Girolami in seventh, the Münnich Motorsport driver having slipped down the order in the closing minutes.

After an increase in power this weekend, Thed Björk was the best Lynk & Co driver in eighth, 0.760 seconds off the pace.

The second Münnich Honda of Esteban Guerrieri and BRC Racing’s Gabriele Tarquini completed the top ten.

None of the Audi drivers made it into the top ten, with local racer Niels Langeveld the best of the RS3 runners in 12th, almost nine tenths off the pace.

WRT’s Gordon Shedden propped up the timesheets in 26th, more than three seconds off the pace and a full second slower than the next slowest driver.

Second practice gets underway at 15:20 CEST (14:20 BST).
