Andrew Jordan fends off Colin Turkington to double up at Thruxton

BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan fended off heavy pressure from reigning champion Colin Turkington to take his third victory in the new-for-2019 BMW 3 Series in race two at Thruxton.

Jordan took victory in the opening race and got off to a lightning start in the second, while Team BMW stablemate Turkington jumped Dan Cammish and race one polesitter Sam Tordoff at Campbell into on the opening lap.

The 1-2 marked the fifth victory out of eight races for the WSR-run BMW 330i, and promoted Turkington ten points clear in the championship standings.

Cammish secured his second podium of the day by repeating his third position, while Jason Plato held off old rival Matt Neal by just three tenths at the flag to come home fourth and fifth respectively.

AmD Tuning’s Tordoff struggled with the weight from his race one podium and slipped back to sixth after he had contact with Cammish heading into the Club chicane, eventually coming home ahead of team-mate Rory Butcher who continued his strong form at the Hampshire circuit.

In eighth position was Tom Ingram, who enjoyed better progress in the second contest, ahead of Plato’s Power Maxed Racing team-mate Rob Collard, with BTC Racing’s Josh Cook rounding out the top ten having shed the championship ballast from his Honda Civic Type R FK8.

2017 champion Ash Sutton again struggled at an unfavourable circuit for his Subaru Levorg, coming home 11th ahead of Jake Hill, who secured his second points finish of the day.

Tom Chilton’s Motorbase Ford Focus RS was next, fending off Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan after the latter slid wide as as the track became slightly greasy with rain falling at the midway mark.

The third Team BMW entry of Tom Oliphant recovered from his drive-through penalty in the opening race to secure the final points-paying position.

Motorbase’s Ollie Jackson was the only runner to not make the chequered flag after he and Chris Smiley got tangled up at the Club chicane early in the race.

The final race of the British Touring Car Championship at Thruxton is set to get underway at 17:15 BST.
