Jessica Bäckman emerged as the fastest driver in a significantly shortened second practice session for the TCR Europe series at the Hungaroring, as accidents for Davit Kajaia and Andreas Bäckman.
The session had barely got underway when PCR Sport’s Davit Kajaia spun off into the gravel at turn 4, bringing out the red flags for the first time.
After a five minute delay the session resumed, but before drivers had a chance to post a competitive time it was Target Competition’s Andreas Bäckman who went off at Turn 3, hitting the barriers at a 45 degree angle and bringing about another stoppage, including the need for barrier repairs.
Bäckman emerged with a slight injury to his wrist as a result of the impact, and the clock continued to tick down for a further ten minutes.
When the session finally resumed, it was Andreas’ sister Jessica who put in the best lap in her Hyundai, just under a tenth ahead of the DG Sport Peugeot of Aurélien Comte.
Dušan Borković was third fastest in his Hyundai, ahead of the leading Volkswagen of WRT’s Maxime Potty in fourth.
Josh Files was fifth fastest, ahead of Mat’o Homola in sixth, making it four Target Competition cars in the top six places.
First practice pace-setter Nelson Panciatici was seventh fastest in his M Racing Hyundai, ahead of the leading Audi of Comtoyou Racing’s Gilles Magnus in eighth.
The top ten was completed by Peugeots from two different teams, with Team Clairet Sport’s Teddy Clairet just ahead of JSB Compétition’s Julien Briché.
Qualifying for race one gets underway at 16:00 CEST (15:00 BST).
