The official entry list for the second season of the FIA World Touring Car Cup has been published today, with 26 full-season entrants from 13 teams representing seven different brands all battling for the title.
Arguably the most talented touring car grid of all-time, no less than seven FIA title winners are represented, whilst the drivers on the grid have won a combined 43 major titles between them.
Heading the entry list is defending champion Gabriele Tarquini, who has remained with the BRC Racing Hyundai squad for 2019, alongside team-mate Norbert Michelisz.
Lynk & Co represents a new brand to both WTCR and the world of touring car racing, with four-time WTCC champion Yvan Muller being retained by Cyan Racing alongside three-time WTCC champion and one-time ETCC champion Andy Priaulx.
12 of the drivers who took victories in the 2018 season have remained on the grid, joined by nine new drivers to the series. A mix of experienced tin-top stalwarts and emerging talents will be gunning for the trophy.
“The variety of cars, the level of customer teams, the amount of champions, the mix of generations of drivers and the spread of forces across the field will make WTCR a unique flagship for the entire global TCR category,” said Head of Eurosport Events François Ribeiro.
“The #WTCR2019SUPERGRID is probably the best international touring car entry list we have seen in decades, certainly a level above 2018.
“I expect nothing else than 20 cars within one second in qualifying, fights at every level in all 30 races, plus one great champion crowned in Malaysia on 15 December.”
