Pepe Oriola confirms switch to TCR Asia for 2019

Pepe Oriola will race a Hyundai i30 N TCR for Solite Indigo Racing in the 2019 TCR Asia series, marking a departure from both international touring cars and car manufacturer CUPRA for the Spaniard.

Oriola has competed in world-level touring cars for much of the past eight years, initially in the World Touring Car Champion between 2011 and 2013 (plus a one-off entry in Macau in 2014) followed by the TCR International series between 2015 and 2017.

Last year he competed in the inaugural FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) with Campos Racing.

The 24-year-old confirmed via social media that he would be making the switch to the regional series, becoming the first Spaniard to enter the regional championship.

“I’m really happy to announce that I will join the Hyundai Motorsport family to race in the 2019 TCR Asia series at the wheel of a Hyundai i30 N TCR with the Kore-based customer team Solite Indigo Racing,” said Oriola.

“I have to thank everyone involved in this new project in my racing career.”

Indigo Racing took part in the first TCR Korea series in 2018, also making a one-off entry into the Korean round of the TCR Asia series in August.
