Oettinger and Engstler Motorsport partner up for TCR Germany

German tuning company Oettinger has partnered with Engstler Motorsport to run Volkswagen Golf GTi cars in the 2019 ADAC TCR Germany series, running Mitchell Cheah and Maurits Sandberg.

The company has a long history in tuning and motorsport, having previously competed in Volkswagen Beetles in the 1950s, Formula-Vau and the Volkswagen Scirocco Cup in the 1960s and 1970s, and the DTC in the 1990s.

The team will run young Malaysian Cheah and Dutchman Sandberg in the German touring car series in 2019.

“A short acclimatisation phase is to be expected [with Cheah],” said Team Coordinator Kai Jordan, himself a TCR racer.

Team Principal Rüdiger Völkner added: “The ADAC TCR Germany is one of the most interesting Touring Car championships in Europe, and, with the entry of the Volkswagen Golf GTI cars, it is ideal for us to go chasing quick lap times.”

Engstler Motorsports’ Sports Director Kurt Treml is expecting another strong season in TCR Germany.

“We are excited about this cooperation and are certain that, together with Oettinger, we have a great season ahead of us,” said Treml.

“Mitchell Cheah was already successful for us in TCR Asia and will now participate in his first German series.”

The TCR Germany season gets underway at Oschersleben on April 26 – 28.
