Fresh from claiming his first win of the year last time out, Hyundai Team Engstler’s Luca Engstler secured pole position in qualifying for the ADAC TCR Germany series at the Sachsenring ahead of the Honda of Mike Halder.
In only his second meeting at the wheel of a new Hyundai i30 N TCR car, Engstler took pole position by a mere 0.025 seconds from Halder, who is aiming to keep himself in title contention as the season nears its conclusion.
Harald Proczyk put his Opel Astra in third, also less than a tenth from pole, ahead of series returnee Pascal Eberle in fourth, who is entering his first race of the season in a CUPRA entered by Steibel Motorsport.
Team Engstler’s leading Volkswagen was that of young German Justin Häußermann in fifth, who scored his best qualifying result of the season with a first visit to Q2, ahead of the second Hyundai of Frenchman Theo Coicaud in sixth.
Prosport Performance’s Max Hesse was the leading Audi driver in seventh, ahead of the second Team Engstler Volkswagen of Niko Kankkunen in eighth.
Completing the top ten, and securing the reverse grid front row, were Profi-Car Team Halder’s Michelle Halder in ninth and Racing One’s points leader Niels Langeveld in tenth, the latter scoring his first reverse-grid pole of the year.
HP Racing’s Luke Wankmüller and TOPCAR Sport’s Loris Prattes just missed out on the top ten and were 11th and 12th respectively. For Wankmüller the result will be a frustration, as it is only the second time this year that the German has missed out on the top ten in qualifying.
Race one is scheduled to get underway at 11:45 BST (12:45 CEST).
