Gordon Shedden claims ‘you haven’t seen the best’ yet

Gordon Shedden says that followers of the FIA World Touring Car Cup ‘haven’t seen the best’ of his capability yet, as the Audi Sport driver starts the Asian leg of the season this weekend in China.

Shedden will get his first experience of the Ningbo International Speedpark this weekend as he takes part in his first touring car races in mainland China, although the Scot has previously raced in Macau.

With more than two months having elapsed since the last round in Slovakia, Shedden admits that he is entering the ‘second phase’ of the season with a renewed focus.

“For me it feels like the start of the second season of WTCR,” said Shedden. “After such a long summer break everybody arrives with a new sense of optimism and a clear head.

“For me these last four events are really important and it’s fantastic to have these two events in China and then we continue on to Japan and Macau as well.”

Shedden has claimed a best finish of fourth so far this season, taking a total of seven top ten finishes out of the first 18 races. But the three-time British Touring Car Champion insists that the best is still to come from him, as he continues to adapt to a new style of racing on international circuits.

“You certainly haven’t seen the best of what I’m capable of yet. This year is very much about learning because it’s the first year I’m racing outside of the UK, every circuit is new and the competition is really high.

“This is a year for learning to build the foundations and think to a big push for next year.”
