Ash Sutton makes it two out of two at Oulton Park

Verizon Connect Racing’s Ash Sutton completed a perfect début weekend in the TCR UK series at Oulton Park, claiming another comfortable victory in race two ahead of Ollie Taylor and Lewis Kent.

The start saw Sutton jump into the lead and the race one winner never looked back, easing to a second consecutive victory by a comfortable margin of nine seconds over Pyro Motorsport’s Taylor.

Taylor himself started the race in eighth and made his way into sixth by the end of the opening lap, which then became fifth when DPE Motorsport’s Derek Palmer went off at Lodge Corner whilst running in third.

The Honda driver again benefitted when WestCoast Racing’s Dan Lloyd made contact with Maximum Motorsport’s Stewart Lines ahead of him on lap seven, dropping both drivers behind the Civic.

With Taylor then running in third he reeled in the Essex & Kent Motorsport Hyundai of Lewis Kent, claiming second when the 18-year-old ran wide on the last corner of the last lap.

Kent took his second podium of the season with third, whilst points leader Lloyd took fourth – although the Volkswagen driver is under investigation for the contact with Lines.

Lloyd had gone for the inside line heading into Cascades, but made contact with the CUPRA, dropping Lines down to sixth and allowing Taylor to slip past in the process.

WestCoast Racing’s Jessica Bäckman was fifth, ahead of the recovering Lines in sixth, who completed the race circulating in isolation. Lines’ team-mate Tim Docker completed the finishers on the lead lap in seventh.

Gearbox issues struck Andreas Bäckman on lap two, with the WestCoast driver pitting to address the problem before rejoining the race, ultimately finishing in eighth, three laps down.

Palmer retired from the race, capping off another difficult weekend for the Scottish Alfa Romeo team.

Neither Maximum Motorsport’s Carl Swift, who should have started from the reverse grid pole position, or DPE Motorsport’s Robert Gilmour started the race due to the damage sustained in their first race crash.
