‘Very good chance’ for Dan Cammish to capitalise at Snetterton

Dan Cammish believes that he has ‘a very good chance to capitalise’ in the British Touring Car Championship races at Snetterton, with the Honda driver carrying no weight into at least two of the three races.

Having slipped to 13th in the drivers’ championship standings, Cammish carries no ballast into qualifying or the first race on Sunday.

The Leeds racer is hoping that he can use that to his advantage in the first of Saturday’s qualifying sessions, having already shown strong pace by going second in Free Practice 2 at the Norfolk circuit.

He was also surprised at his pace in the dry running on Saturday, with lap times being almost a second quicker than those in the two-day test held at the circuit earlier in July.

“It’s actually quite a lot faster than when we tested here [earlier in July] – the track has a lot of grip, so it’s significantly quicker,” said Cammish to TouringCars.Net.

“You’re looking at probably a good second quicker than when we tested, and that feels like quite a lot in the car, especially when you were already on the limit before. It’s quite a big difference.

“It’s great to be up at the front, but it is testing. The important bit is next up. I’ve got to deliver; I’ve got a good car and I’m in a good position to capitalise and hopefully start a good weekend, so I just need to get the best out of myself and the best out of the car and let it come.

“I’ve got a very good chance to capitalise in first qualifying against the guys that still have weight – as obviously I’ve dropped out of the top ten [in the championship] so I’m in a good position to have a great first race – and that’s what I want to capitalise on.”

For second qualifying the field will run without success ballast for only the second time this season, with the ‘diamond double’ race on Sunday awarding double points – which Cammish believes he also has a good chance of performing well in.

“From there, in race three qualifying, at the end of the day I always go out there to do the best job possible and I’ve got a good car, so I don’t see any reason at all why I can’t punch right up there even when the others have got no weight.

“That’s what I’m aiming for and that’s what we’re here for, so I’ll approach it absolutely no differently.”
