Pascal Wehrlein continued a consistent run of form at Circuit Park Zandvoort, as the 2015 champion took the top spot in the final free practice session of the weekend, setting a 1:30.960 around the 4.307-km circuit.
The German was only 0.079 seconds quicker than Britain’s Jamie Green, who led a Ingolstadt quartet, ahead of defending champion René Rast, Nico Müller and Loïc Duval.
Paul Di Resta was the next best-placed Mercedes driver down in sixth, with the top six drivers separated by only 0.293 seconds, whilst points leader Gary Paffett took seventh.
Augusto Farfus was the best of the BMW contingent in eighth, with Daniel Juncadella and Edoardo Mortara completing the top ten.
Timo Glock was 11th quickest, just 0.002 seconds off the top ten, ahead of the only Mercedes driver end up in the second half of the time sheets, Austria’s Lucas Auer.
Two-time champion Marco Wittmann was 13th fastest, ahead of Mike Rockenfeller and Bruno Spengler, who completed the top fifteen, in what was another difficult session for the Munich mnaufacturer.
Philipp Eng was 0.117 seconds slower than the 2012 champion, ahead of fellow BMW rookie Joel Eriksson, who took no further part in the 30-minute session after the Swede clipped the grass on the outisde of turn seven, putting his M4 DTM into the wall.
Robin Frijns was the only driver to not set a lap time during the session, as the Dutchman’s RS5 DTM came to a sudden halt in the first two minutes at turn five.
Qualifying for the second race of the weekend in the Netherlands takes place at 1120 CET (BST + 1 hour), lasting for 20 minutes.
