Dániel Nagy delighted after double home podium in Budapest

M1RA Racing’s Dániel Nagy says his double podium in the TCR Europe races at the Hungaroring “feels so good” as he believes the home support has given him “a lot of power” this weekend.

The home racer progressed from seventh on the grid to third in race one yesterday, before jumping from fourth to second to score a M1RA Racing 1-2.

He told TouringCars.Net the home support at Budapest has helped him throughout the weekend, and that he felt he had a better race in the reverse-grid contest than in race one.

“First of all it’s always good to be here,” said Nagy. “To be honest it was very good to see a lot of people around and they are wearing my T-shirt and supporting me and cheering me on.

“It means a lot for me and gives me a lot of power so it’s always good to stand in the podium but now it feels much much better, it feels so good. After yesterday’s race I was a little bit disappointed because although third position is really nice from seventh but I didn’t have good pace so I was trying to improve for today.

“I’m usually very good at the Hungaroring so I was expecting a good race. I was putting big pressure on my shoulders because of that – I was trying to win the race from fourth.”

Nagy described a tough second race in which he was patient in getting past the Peugeot of Francisco Abreu to place second and try to hunt down teammate and race winner Francisco Mora.

“The beginning of the race was very tough because we were fighting with the Peugeots, who were very slow in the braking zones and the entry of the corners,” he said.

“But then immediately as they touch the throttle they disappear so it was really hard to overtake them so I had to be clever to find a safe position and my track knowledge was also helping me. I managed to do a quite clean manoeuvre so I was satisfied with that.”

“After that I was trying to catch Francisco and he was very quick – really quick from the beginning of the weekend so I think he really deserved that one.

“Of course I was trying to catch him but my tyre degradation at the front was very big. I could not catch him, I was trying, but after that I just managed to come home and take this 1-2 for M1RA, which is very important for the team.”
