WestCoast Racing’s Dan Lloyd won the reverse-grid race of TCR UK at Castle Combe, managing the gap to race one winner Ollie Taylor to take his seventh victory of the season.
Lloyd started from pole position by virtue of non-starter Darelle Wilson, and fended off an early challenge into Quarry Corner from a fast-starting Carl Swift to control the race to the chequered flag.
Taylor fought his way back through to second place from fifth on the grid, but Lloyd already had a comfortable advantage, which was then eradicated by a late safety car following contact between Stewart Lines and Jessica Bäckman at Camp Corner.
Lines and Bäckman were battling for fifth and sixth position on lap 14, when Lines looked down the inside at the final turn and the pair made heavy contact with the barriers.
The race was restarted with four minutes remaining, with Lloyd making a great restart to give himself a second buffer from Taylor to help him secure the win.
Maximum Motorsport’s Swift dropped from third to fifth at the flag due to a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits, promoting Andreas Bäckman who therefore scored his second podium of the weekend.
The Swedish racer had previously lost out to Lewis Kent at The Esses, before Kent ran wide at Bobbies later in the lap, handing Bäckman fourth on the road, but third after Swift’s penalty was applied.
Derek Palmer scored his best result of the season so far in fourth position in the DPE Motorsport Alfa Romeo Giulietta, ahead of Swift on the road.
Verizon Connect Racing’s Finlay Crocker did not take the start of race two following heavy contact in the opening contest, and may be forced to re-shell his Honda Civic Type R before the next round at Oulton Park on 4 August.
