AmD Tuning parts ways with Tom Boardman

AmD Tuning have parted ways with Tom Boardman for the second half of the British Touring Car Championship season, with a new driver set to be announced alongside Rory Butcher in the second of the team’s MGs.

Boardman made a return to the BTCC in 2018 with the Essex-based team after six years away, but the Lancashire driver has managed just two points placings so far in 2018, with a best result of fourth in the second race at Brands Hatch.

Posting on Facebook, AmD Tuning Team Principal Shaun Hollamby explained the decision to drop Boardman, who has just two points finishes compared to Butchers’ ten top 15 results.

“It is always a difficult decision to make changes to any of our team personnel,” said Hollamby, “but the long term aims and goals of the team must come first.

“We will be replacing Tom Boardman for the second half of the BTCC .

“I would like to thank Tom for his efforts this year and wish him luck with his future motorsport.”

Boardman’s replacement will be revealed before the next event at Snetterton at the end of July. The team will also be present at the two day mid-season test at Snetterton next week.

Boardman had been linked with a drive in TCR this year, before his surprise last-minute announcement at AmD in the BTCC.
