Finlay Crocker believes ‘the pace is there’ for results to follow

Finlay Crocker expects an upturn in fortunes in future TCR UK rounds after an uplifting show of pace at Brands Hatch this weekend, despite some frustrations.

The Pyro Motorsport racer’s Honda Civic Type R FK7 was clearly among the quickest around the 1.2 mile Indy circuit, but finished the opening race seventh before a spin at McLaren halted a potential podium charge for the Scot.

“That time it felt like something broke, I’m not entirely sure, as soon as I went to change direction from left to right and lean on the left side, it just went straight round,” explained Crocker of the incident.

“At that time I was already running last, I went from fourth with good pace in the car to be totally honest with you to last. I value my own life a wee bit too much, we weren’t going to get any points so I just parked it.”

He underlined the potential of the car and felt he was in a position to challenge those ahead during the final contest.

“The car was good. We’ve got the pace there, I just need to get some more time in it and start driving it properly, then we can maybe get some results,” he added.

“The annoying thing is I could see I was as quick, if not quicker, than the three in front of me. I reckon Dan [Lloyd] was holding Carl Swift up a bit and backing him into Jessica, and then he had the pace to go.

“I enjoyed the first few laps, and we’ll see where we go from there.”

“There’s no excuses from the car’s point of view at all, it’s perfectly good enough, the setup was good and we haven’t really changed much all weekend.

“We arrived with a setup, made a couple of changes and more or less stuck with that, and it’s been good. I just need to learn to drive it a bit better in race conditions, I think.”

The championship heads next to Castle Combe over the weekend of July 14-15.
