Daniel Lloyd surged through from the fifth row of the grid to win his sixth successive TCR UK race and complete a clean sweep at Brands Hatch.
It took the WestCoast Racing driver a mere five minutes to move himself onto the back of pole-sitter Carl Swift’s CUPRA TCR, and despite a boisterous fightback from the latter at Graham Hill Bend he was powerless to prevent Lloyd from extending his championship lead.
Jessica Bäckman rounded out a strong weekend with her maiden podium finish in the category, seven tenths of a second adrift of her team-mate as the Swedish outfit claimed a 1-2 finish.
Howard Fuller (Sean Walkinshaw Racing) used his inspired late-race pace to overturn the sister Maximum Motorsport machine of Stewart Lines and claim the final podium spot – also a first for the ex British Touring Car Championship racer.
Ollie Taylor struggled to re-create his form in the Honda Civic Type R FK7 from race one and had a lonely run to fifth after Lewis Kent’s Hyundai i30 N TCR pitted with tyre damage in the closing stages.
That allowed Darelle Wilson’s Vauxhall Astra to come through for a season-best sixth, with Kent eventually seventh, albeit three laps down.
Swift suffered an apparent right-front suspension collapse heading into Surtees whilst defending third from Lines and Fuller and retired on the spot, though was classified eighth.
The third and final WestCoast Racing car of Andreas Bäckman also ended the race in the pit lane after contact with Lines caused bodywork to foul against his rear-left tyre and ruled him out of contention.
A race of high attrition was completed by retirees Finlay Crocker (Pyro Motorsport) after a spin at Clearways, a suspected recurring fuel surge problem for Josh Price’s BMR-run Honda Civic FK2 and the troubled Renault Megane TCR of Alex Morgan.
The championship heads next to Castle Combe over the weekend of 14-15 July.
