Andrew Jordan pleased with best qualifying result of the year

Andrew Jordan was pleased to put his BMW 125i M Sport on the second row of the grid for the first of Sunday’s British Touring Car Championship races at Oulton Park, after taking his best qualifying result of the year.

Jordan was three tenths of Matt Simpson’s pole position time on Saturday, but the Pirtek Racing driver was easily the best of the BMW drivers, as WSR team-mates Colin Turkington and Rob Collard were just ninth and 12th respectively.

Jordan memorably won the opening race at the Cheshire circuit from 15th on the grid last year, and as a result he believes he can achieve strong results in Sunday’s trio of races.

“I’m pleased with my best result of the season and to be the best of the drivers in rear-wheel-drive cars,” said Jordan. “I made a small mistake at Lodge on my fastest lap and without that I could probably have been third, but I don’t think it was possible to challenge for pole today.

“I can definitely race forwards from here and I’m confident of some good results tomorrow.”

WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts believes that Jordan needs to capitalise on his starting position the most in Sunday’s opening race, which gets underway at 12:20 BST.

“AJ’s done a very good job today,” added Bennetts. “It’s his best qualifying performance of the season and he’s certainly capable of finishing on the podium at the very least.

“Oulton Park is a circuit at which the weight of your car makes a big difference so getting the best possible result in race one – while his car is ballast-free – is extremely important.”
