The second practice session for the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season opener at Hockenheim saw Timo Glock fastest around the Baden-
In a session that saw the times rapidly tumble after Paul Di Resta broke the 1:33 barrier with two minutes remaining, it saw the top seven spots occupied by either a Mercedes or BMW driver.
2015 champion Pascal Wehrlein was second quickest, ahead of stablemate Lucas Auer, who was the last to venture out on track during the 30-minute session.
Marco Wittmann, Joel Eriksson and Augusto Farfus made it four BMWs in the top six, with all drivers setting their best efforts in the last 90 seconds.
First practice pace setter Di Resta would end up seventh fastest, ahead of fellow Britons Jamie Green and Gary Paffett, after all three drivers were at the top of the time sheets before the times plummeted.
Loïc Duval, who went fastest with just over a third remaining, was 11th, setting his best time of a 1:33.117 with eleven and a half minutes to go.
Mattias Ekström was quicker that defending champion René Rast by just 0.035 seconds, as the pair were slower than the Frenchman.
Daniel Juncadella and Mike Rockenfeller completed the top 15, which were split by only 0.800 seconds in the run up to the first qualifying session of the season around the 4.574-km circuit.
Edoardo Mortara, Philipp Eng, Robin Frijns and Nico Müller completed the 19-strong order, in a very competitive field.
Qualifying for the first race of the 2018 DTM season takes place at 1125 CEST (1025 BST), lasting for 20 minutes.
