Robert Gilmour joins DPE Motorsport for Brands Hatch onwards

Robert Gilmour will join DPE Motorsport in the team’s second Alfa Romeo Giulietta TCR from the third TCR UK event of the season at Brands Hatch in early June.

DPE Motorsport have been forced to find a driver for their second car after Laser Tools Racing announced their withdrawal from the series after the last round, with Aiden Moffat vacating the seat.

Gilmour has previously been involved with the team, run by Derek Palmer Sr, having tested the car in Italy. Gilmour will partner Derek Palmer Jr for the team’s driving duties.

The 26-year-old will drive the car for the rest of the season, and he has previous racing experience in karting, having won the European and BRDC ‘Stars of Tomorrow’ title in karting as well as making regular appearances in historic Touring Cars.

“I was one of the three drivers who originally went over to Italy to test the car, so I’ve been part of the project from the very start,” said Gilmour. “I’ve watched the TCR International Series grow and I was with Derek at Silverstone and Knockhill, so I know all about TCR UK and where it’s going.

“I think it’s very well-run and has good coverage, so I can’t wait to be a part of it all.”

Team boss Derek Palmer Sr believes that Gilmour will be able to help the team unlock what he describes as the potential in the Romeo Ferraris-built car.

“I believe strongly that TCR is the future of Touring Car racing and so I’m delighted that Robert is joining us for the rest of the season.

“Anyone involved in motor racing will know all about Alfa Romeo’s racing DNA and I think this little car has a huge future; we’ll be continuing to work to develop the car with Derek and Robert.”
