Raft of penalties handed out after Nürburgring races

Gordon Shedden, Esteban Guerrieri and Mehdi Bennani were amongst the drivers hit with post-race penalties after the FIA World Touring Car Cup (WTCR) races on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Shedden was deemed to be at fault for the incident with Gabriele Tarquini in race two, which saw the points leader crash out and sustain damage to his Hyundai that prevented him from starting race three.

As a result the stewards handed the Scot a post-race 30-second penalty in lieu of a drive-through for the incident, dropping him to last place.

Münnich Motorsport’s Esteban Guerrieri was hit with an in-race 10-second penalty for contact with Norbert Michelisz at Turn 25 in the final race of the weekend, dropping him from fourth to eighth position.

Sébastien Loeb Racing’s Mehdi Bennani was handed a five-second post-race penalty for causing a collision with Gordon Shedden at Turn 8 in the final race.

Shedden also received contact from DG Sport Compétition’s Mat’o Homola at Turn 17 in the last race, which resulted in the Slovakian racer being handed a five-second post-race penalty.

BRC Racing’s Norbert Michelisz received a five-place grid penalty for the next race after he caused a collision with Rob Huff at Turn 38 in race two, although the stewards elected not to change the race result.

Elsewhere James Thompson was excluded from the results of race two due to the Münnich Motorsport team having started work on the car before the repair time started, without seeking the neutralisation of the Parc Fermé conditions.

As a result of this, a further penalty was handed down in race three, which saw Thompson given a 40-second time penalty, in lieu of a stop-and-go penalty, on top of his finishing time.
