Philipp Eng secures maiden DTM pole for Lausitz race two

A very jubilant Philipp Eng secured his first Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters pole position for the second race of the weekend at EuroSpeedway Lausitz, as the Austrian secured his second successive front row start in just four races in the series.

Eng would post the best time of a 1:38.150 around the 4.570-km circuit with six minutes of the session completed, with the Mercedes duo of Pascal Wehrlein and Gary Paffett completing the top three, with the trio being separated by only 0.042 seconds.

2014 and 2016 champion Marco Wittmann would make it two BMW drivers in the top four, as Audi Sport only had Mike Rockenfeller in the top ten, with the other four cars at the bottom part of the order.

The Team Phoenix driver rounded out the top five, who were only separated by 0.226 seconds at the completion of the 20-minute session, which saw nor real improvements by many of the field.

Joel Eriksson put his Team RBM M4 DTM seventh on the grid, behind race one winner Edoardo Mortara by just 0.018 seconds.

Race one pole sitter Lucas Auer was eighth, in front of both Daniel Juncadella and points leader Timo Glock, who completed the top ten.

Bruno Spengler missed out on a top ten starting position by 0.002 seconds, with Augusto Farfus only a further 0.035 seconds adrift down in 12th place.

Final practice pace setter Nico Müller could only muster 13th, ahead of Robin Frijns, Paul Di Resta, Jamie Green and Loïc Duval, who completes the starting order.

The second race of the Lausitz race weekend commences at 1330 local time (BST + 1), lasting for 55 minutes plus one lap, with a mandatory stop for all drivers.
