Ollie Taylor: Leading duo ‘aren’t unbeatable’ at Knockhill

Ollie Taylor says that Dan Lloyd and Aiden Moffat ‘aren’t unbeatable’ at Knockhill, even though he could only qualify third behind the duo who have dominated the early part of the TCR UK season.

Whilst WestCoast Racing’s Lloyd and Laser Tools Racing’s Moffat occupied the front row of the grid for the second event in a row, Taylor secured his best qualifying result of the season with third.

The Pyro Motorsport racer believes that he can take the fight to the leading duo, even though Lloyd has won the first two races of the season and Moffat has already claimed a second place finish in the season opener last time out.

“Pyro put a fantastic car underneath me, and [securing third] is a combination of a lot of things happening at once,” said Taylor to TouringCars.Net. “I don’t think they’re unbeatable. Given a bit more seat time [I could beat them].

“I’ve never been here before, so there’s all these things that I’m trying to bring together, but P3 is a great place to be on the second row and hopefully we can get a good start.”

Taylor rose through the times towards the end of qualifying to move in to third with just a few minutes left on the clock, and he admits that it was a fine line between getting it right and going off the circuit.

“We changed to a different set of tyres and I just went out on maximum attack but also trying to be quite composed. If you go too far beyond the ragged edge you go backwards, so I’m very happy with P3.

“You need a bit of luck, you need a clear track and you need to deliver a good lap. If you’re comfortable then you’re not going quick enough, so it’s just about finding a good balance and not over-driving or under-driving.

“Dan and Aiden are a very quick couple of lads and they’re experienced in this sort of racing, and it’s still only my second round, so I’m happy with that.”
