Petr Fulín wins race two in Most as Luca Engstler celebrates too soon

Petr Fulín took victory in the second TCR Germany race at Autodrom Most in Czechia, with second going to Michelle Halder after Luca Engstler celebrated too soon, thinking the race had already ended.

Both Fulín and Halder made strong starts, with the former taking the lead into Turn 1, after reverse grid pole-sitter Theo Coicaud made a slow start.

Further around the opening lap Engstler passed Halder for second, which would have meant full points in the championship, with Fulín not eligible for points as a guest entry.

However the young German celebrated second on the road one lap too soon, handing the position to Halder and leaving Engstler to finish in third.

Racing One’s Niels Langeveld took fourth, ahead of HP Racing’s Harald Proczyk in fifth, with the two changing positions twice in the last few laps, including with slight contact at the penultimate turn on lap 17.

Fifth place gives Proczyk the points lead, although such has been guest entry Fulín’s form early on in the season that had he registered for points the Czech racer would be leading the standings.

Prosport Performance’s Max Hesse was the leading Audi driver in sixth, ahead of Dominik Fugel in seventh, who was the best of the Honda racers.

Niko Kankkunen took eighth for Liqui Moly Team Engstler, ahead of team-mate Justin Häußermann in ninth and Team Honda ADAC Sachsen’s Mike Halder in tenth.

Mike Halder had earlier been given a drive-through penalty for contact with Theo Coicaud on the opening lap. Coicaud was later hit by Sandro Kaibach at Turn 1 on lap eight, ending his race and requiring a safety car intervention for two laps, for which Kaibach was also given a drive-through penalty.

Elsewhere Jasmin Preisig was handed a drive-through penalty when she took out Maurits Sandberg on lap 13.
