Aiden Moffat pleased with second after ‘step into the unknown’

Laser Tools Racing’s Aiden Moffat was pleased with the runner-up spot in the opening TCR UK Series race at Silverstone, given the lack of running on slick tyres so far this weekend.

The 1.6 mile National circuit has been hit with inclement conditions so far over the Easter break, giving the teams very little opportunity to run on Yokohama’s dry compound.

Nevertheless, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta racer put early pressure on eventual race winner Daniel Lloyd’s Volkswagen Golf GTi before finding a rhythm and finishing second.

He will start ahead of the former British Touring Car Championship racer in the reverse grid race.

“The most laps we’d done on slick tyres before that race was about four, and it’s a half-hour race, so it was a bit of a step into the unknown,” admitted Moffat to TouringCars.net.

“This weekend is a test session in some senses for us as we learn what the car is about, whereas others have done full seasons, so to finish second means I’m over the moon.

“We’ll go out in the second one and enjoy it and have some fun. It’s a great car, a great championship and we’re looking forward to some close racing.”

The final race of the weekend at Silverstone is scheduled for 16:05 GMT.
