Darrelle Wilson will enter a Vauxhall Astra into the TCR UK Series in his family-run team, with the Milltek Sport Volkswagen Cup graduate aiming for the title in 2018.
Wilson has spent a number of seasons in the Volkswagen one-make cup, but the 29-year-old hopes that moving into TCR UK will offer his career further progression.
Wilson recently tested the car in Germany, and will make his début in the Green-liveried car at Silverstone this weekend.
It means that there will be six brands represented on the grid for the first-ever meeting of the TCR UK series.
“My aim is still to aim for the skies,” said Wilson. “I’m very much looking forward to whatever life throws at me and winning races in such a strong, competitive and highly regarded championships all over the world. The TCR UK championship will hopefully attract the sponsors I need to progress.
“Finishing on a high in the VW Cup, I can only hope to carry on and have the same success in TCR UK. The entry is based around a family team, so the budget needed is quite low, but I’m still looking for sponsors to come on board and enjoy the journey with us.”
Wilson makes the step up to TCR UK after many years in the Volkswagen Cup, in which he first raced in 2005. Since then he has also competed in Britcar and Formula Ford and alfa Romeo championships.
Wilson enjoyed his best year to-date in 2017 when he won one race and scored three podiums, ending the year in fifth place overall.
