Daniel Lloyd aiming to extend TCR UK stay for full-season campaign

Daniel Lloyd is aiming to extend his TCR UK Series programme to a full-season campaign after agreeing a guest entry for the inaugural meeting at Silverstone this weekend.

Set to compete in the double-header behind the wheel of a WestCoast Racing-run Volkswagen Golf GTi TCR, the former British Touring Car Championship racer admitted work is underway to race at the remaining six events.

Lloyd is one of the favourites to claim the championships first race victories, with past TCR experience including campaigns in the International Series and serving as BoP (Balance of Performance) test driver ahead of the new season.

“I think it’s the way things are going at the moment – TCR is taking over,” said Lloyd.

“We’ve got some strong national championships, it is now the main world touring car championship. It’s good to be involved in the TCR UK Series for the first round, which hopefully can be a full season campaign, it’s something that I’ve wanted to do.

“The Volkswagen Golf should run very well this weekend and I’m with a good team. It was a last-minute deal with WestCoast Racing but I’m glad it’s happened.”

The former Porsche Carrera Cup GB racer also believes a lack of testing isn’t likely to hinder him ahead of the weekend, with others having clocked up mileage in similar conditions at the series’ test day back on 6th March.

“It shouldn’t be too difficult to adjust [without testing], I think everyone is in the same boat, it’ll come down to which car is strong around the circuit. Everyone knows Silverstone National is quite straightforward, some of it will be down to straightline speed but also the weather is going to play a big part as well.”
