Luca Engstler inherits victory after Lorenzo Veglia penalised

Luca Engstler inherited victory in the second TCR Middle East race in Abu Dhabi, after the Italian was hit with a post-race 30-second penalty for contact between the pair on the final lap of the race.

Veglia had pushed Engstler wide on the final lap of the race, which dropped the German to second at the chequered flag and gave the win to the Pit Lane Competizioni driver.

But 17-year-old Engstler was later given the win after the stewards of the meeting decided Veglia’s move was unfair.

By inheriting victory, Engstler moves to just one point behind championship leader Giacomo Altoè at the end of the racing weekend.

Veglia dropped to eighth as a result.
