Daniel Lloyd ruled out of TCR finale after race-ending crash

Lukoil Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Daniel Lloyd will miss the final round of the 2017 TCR International Series at Dubai Autodrome as a result of damage sustained in the opening contest.

After a frustrating start dropped the SEAT Leon driver to the tail of the midfield, Lloyd’s fightback was curtailed after contact, possibly with the Honda of Roberto Colciago, pitched Lloyd into the armco barrier and left him stranded in the middle of the circuit with extensive front-end damage.

The SEAT now has a slightly bent front suspension and cannot be repaired in time for the finale, even if the team were to opt to break the curfew on repair time and consign Lloyd to the back of the grid.

“I got inside Dupont into the long-left hander out the back and coming down into the chicane, I was on the outside and we were both level and both braked for the chicane, just minding our own business,” explained Lloyd to TouringCars.net

“Then from the corner of my eye, someone behind hit someone else with real force – I don’t know what happened but someone’s come into the back of me and wiped me out, I’ve heard the contact was with Colciago, but I don’t know if someone has hit him.

“It’s a real shame, because the last two rounds are probably the most important to put a good show in, and they’ve ended up being the worst two.”

The final TCR International Series race from the United Arab Emirates gets underway at 15:35.
