Opel Astra TCR gains BoP weight for Chinese TCR races

The Opel Astra TCR will be 20 kg heavier after the Balance of Performance [BoP] was adjusted, resulting in an immediate gain ahead of this weekend’s TCR International, TCR China and TCR Asia races in China.

Homola continued an up-and-down run of 2017 form last time out in Thailand, where the Slovakian racer secured the third outright pole position of the season for himself and the car.

However, a puncture whilst Homola was leading the race in Buriram cost him an otherwise certain win, before which the Opel driver had romped away from the field.

Based on data collected in all TCR series worldwide, the technical department have now opted to add 20 kg of additional weight to the Opel, on top of the 10 kg of BoP weight it was previously running, to give a total running weight of 1,315 kg including the driver.

It means that the Opel Astra will become the heaviest car on the TCR grid once again.

The new Hyundai i30 N TCR which is making its début in the International Series this weekend has been assigned a running weight of 1,285 kg. The car will not be eligible to score points in the championship.

No further changes have been made to the BoP weights, leaving the Honda Civic TCR as the second-heaviest car on the grid at 1,305 kg followed by the Audi RS3 LMS at 1,300 kg.
