TCR UK Series unveils 2018 calendar

The TCR UK Series has unveiled a seven-round calendar for its inaugural season in 2018, with the season starting in late March and concluding in mid-October.

TCR UK will begin its first season in 2018, travelling to circuits in England and Scotland at some of the UK’s most prestigious race circuits.

Interest in the new series has reportedly been very high from UK-based teams and drivers, prompting the promoter to consider running ‘A’ and ‘B’ heats and finals if grid sizes become too large to support two standalone races per weekend.

The ‘Plan A’ option will see the series follow the sporting regulations of the TCR International Series, whilst ‘Plan B’ will see a series of heats and finals.

Crucially for teams, there are no clashes with the British Touring Car Championship calendar, with the TCR UK calendar beginning a week earlier and also ending two weeks’ later than the BTCC season.

The most significant difference from the UK’s other touring car championship, other than the time of year, is the addition of Castle Combe in Wiltshire to the calendar, with the circuit not having hosted top-level UK touring car competition in the past, with the BTCC having never visited the circuit.

TCR UK Promoter Jonathan Ashman stressed the importance of revealing the calendar early on in order to help those looking to enter the new series to finalise their plans for next year.

“I’m delighted that we’ve been able to confirm the calendar so soon after announcing the TCR UK Series,” said Ashman. “I’m extremely grateful to the BRSCC and the circuits for their hard work in agreeing the dates.

“We’ve been amazed at the response from drivers and teams ever since we made the initial announcement and the unveiling of the calendar means those teams and drivers can now make firm plans for the 2018 season.”
