Jack Goff pragmatic about chances of victory in Rockingham opener

Jack Goff expects taking victory in the opening British Touring Car Championship race at Rockingham versus an array of rear-wheel drive cars to be a tall order.

The Eurotech Racing driver was denied pole position in the Honda Civic Type-R by a career-first for James Cole, the Subaru Levorg just 0.048 seconds faster after a late improvement.

With championship contenders Ashley Sutton (Subaru) and Colin Turkington (BMW 1-series) also in close attendance along with the ever-present Tom Ingram, Goff expects a difficult fight to claim his second career win in today’s opening race.

“I thought we had [pole] with a minute to go but the front row’s still good,” admitted Goff.

Goff also admitted relief at being back at the sharp end, citing the competitive parity in the midfield as particularly frustrating last time out at Knockhill.

“We were out of position at Knockhill so it’s nice to be up here again as it can be so difficult to pass cars when everyone’s running so closely.

“There are places to pass here but with a rear-wheel drive car ahead of me, I know it’ll be hard work – I know how fast they start, I had that experience last year over and over again.”
