Andrew Jordan laments electronic issue which cost him ‘certain victory’

Andrew Jordan lost a ‘certain victory’ in the final British Touring Car Championship race at Snetterton after an electronics issue whilst he was leading struck two laps from the finish.

Jordan looked set to secure a victory which would have brought him back into championship contention when his car slowed to a crawl on the penultimate lap of the race, allowing Honda’s Gordon Shedden to go on and claim the win.

Instead of victory the Pirtek driver could only manage 21st and no points, leaving him 69 points adrift of the points lead.

“We were so fast today, it’s a real shame to lose a certain victory,” said Jordan. “After I’d got to the front in race three, I was sure I could win and was concentrating on keeping Gordon behind me.

“If everything had held together, it would have put me fifth in the championship and really helped me to close the points gap to the leaders.”

WSR Team Principal Dick Bennetts praised Jordan’s efforts throughout the weekend, which saw the 28-year-old take fourth and sixth in the first two races before his untimely retirement in race three.

“BMW Pirtek Racing have shown very strong pace today,” said Bennetts. “Andrew has done an extremely good job when you look at where he was after qualifying, so it’s a real shame that he’s lost a win in race three to an electronic issue.

“He’s seventh in the Drivers’ Championship, which at least means he’ll go to Knockhill with a relatively light car, and we’ll be aiming to be just as strong there.”
