Senna Proctor targeting top ten qualifying at home race

Power Maxed Racing’s local driver Senna Proctor is targeting qualifying inside the top ten for the first time when the British Touring Car Championship heads to Croft this weekend.

Proctor is racing one of the team’s new-build Vauxhall Astras in his maiden season in the BTCC, with the 18-year-old having scored four points finishes to-date in the campaign.

Now the Driffield-based racer is heading to his home circuit at Croft targeting a further improvement in his pace, with breaking into the top ten being the aim.

Proctor also admitted that his dad, former BTCC racer Mark Proctor, urged him to push a bit harder last time out at Oulton Park.

“We’ve been consistently progressing the Astra over the opening rounds, and hopefully at Croft, we can really concretise the promise we showed at Oulton Park,” said Proctor.

“After driving quite conservatively earlier in the season, my dad let me off the leash a bit at Oulton and I took a few more risks – some of which paid off, some of which didn’t.

“The target has to be to qualify inside the top ten again at Croft and then convert that into three strong race finishes, which is something we didn’t do last time.”

Proctor admits that the close nature of the racing in the BTCC has caught him by surprise in his first 12 races in the championship.

“Competing in the BTCC has been a fantastic experience so far, and it really is incredibly hard-fought all the way up and down the field – the best series in Britain without a doubt.

“The closeness of the racing has been quite an eye-opener for me, but that’s a challenge that I relish and I’m planning to stick around for quite some time…”
