Liqui Moly Team Engstler’s Kantadhee Kusiri claimed pole position for the TCR Asia Series on the streets of Bangsaen, beating Team Thailand’s Tin Sritrai by over half a second.
The result marks Kusiri’s third pole position of the season, after the Thai racer also took pole position in Malaysia and Zhuhai earlier in the year.
The Volkswagen driver ended up a dominant seven tenths ahead of fellow Thai Sritrai, who was unable to compete on the Thai street circuit for pole.
Kusiri moves to within five points of championship leader Lai Wee Sing with the result, as the R Engineering driver could only manage fourth for the first race.
The leading Audi driver was that of Audi Hong Kong’s Shaun Thong, who put his RS3 in third, hot on the heels of claiming his first TCR Asia podium in the previous race in Zhuhai.
Ecuador’s Diego Moran, who was second in the championship standings heading into the meeting, was fifth, ahead of the leading TCR Thailand entrant of Kittipol Pramoj Na Ayudhya in sixth.
After qualifying, Chariya Huya, who was originally fourth fastest, was excluded from the result.
Race one takes place on Saturday 1 July.
