Frédéric Vervisch rises to the top in second Spa practice

Débutant Frédéric Vervisch set the pace in second practice for the TCR International Series at Spa-Francorchamps, putting his Comtoyou Racing Audi on top of the times ahead of Leopard Racing’s Jean-Karl Vernay.

Vervisch had earlier been second quickest in the morning’s first session, with the Belgian then going one better late on in the afternoon session with a time over a second faster.

Vernay was second but over half a second behind, ahead of Belgian racer Maxime Potty in his Michaël Mazuin Sport Volkswagen.

Delhaye Racing’s Guillaume Mondron was fourth, ahead of the second Leopard Racing car of Brit Rob Huff in fifth.

M1RA’s Attila Tassi was sixth, ahead of the leading DG Sport Opel of Mat’o Homola in seventh. Reigning champion Stefano Comini was eighth, over a second slower than his new team-mate.

TCR International newcomer Tom Coronel was ninth, whilst WestCoast Racing’s Gianni Morbidelli improved significantly on his time from the morning session to complete the top ten.

Whilst Belgians had featured heavily in the top ten of first practice, just three featured in the top ten in second practice, with early pace-setter Benjamin Lessennes in 13th this time around.

Pierre-Yves Corthals endured problems with his steering after just three laps, pitting his Opel early on and thus finishing at the bottom of the times.

Several drivers received warnings about breaching track limits, including Huff and Tassi who were consequently summoned to see the stewards.

The GE-Force Alfa Romeos continued to experience teething problems with their new cars, with Davit Kajaia in 16th and Dušan Borković down in 21st place, the latter complaining about the engine power cutting out.

Qualifying takes place at 13:05 CEST on Friday (12:05 BST) followed by race one at 17:25 CEST on Friday (16:25 BST).
