BMW Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan set the pace in the first British Touring Car Championship practice session at Oulton Park, putting in a late flying lap to pip Adam Morgan to the top time.
The session took place in largely dry conditions, with a hint of light rain affecting the session at times.
The early pace setter was BTC Norlin Racing’s Dave Newsham, who took the top time whilst many of his rivals were darting in and out of the pits in the early stages.
At the half-way stage Ciceley Motorsport’s Adam Morgan rose to the top of the times, putting in a lap of 1 minute 26.739 seconds in his Mercedes-Benz.
It then took until the final minute of the session for Jordan, who had been just outside the top ten beforehand, to put in a rapid lap and take the top spot, going two tenths faster than Morgan.
Eurotech Racing’s Jack Goff continued with his pace from Thruxton to post the third fastest time, a further tenth and a half slower in his Honda Civic.
Josh Cook put the Maximum Motorsport Ford Focus in fourth, ahead of a surprise showing from the leading Subaru of James Cole in fifth, who was just 0.376 seconds off the pace in the Levorg GT.
Team BMW’s Rob Collard was sixth, whilst Speedworks Motorsport’s championship leader Tom Ingram was seventh fastest, just over half a second off the pace.
Neither of the Halfords Yuasa Racing Honda’s made it into the top ten, with Gordon Shedden the fastest of the duo in 13th place, with Matt Neal not far behind in 15th.
Power Maxed Racing’s Tom Chilton was just 20th, a tenth ahead of team-mate Senna Proctor, with Chilton having tried out a different set-up direction in the session.
Árón Taylor-Smith failed to post a time during the 45-minute session due to experiencing a differential problem on his MG.
Second practice takes place at 12:45 BST.
