Hugo Valente and Roberto Colciago hit with penalties

Craft-Bamboo Racing’s Hugo Valente and M1RA’s Roberto Colciago have been given post-race 30-second penalties for the second TCR International Series race in Georgia, due to overtaking under yellow flags.

The 30-second penalties were handed out as a substitute for drive-through penalties.

The yellow flags came out as a result of Mat’o Homola being knocked into the Turn 1 gravel trap on the opening lap by circuit owner Shota Abkhazava.

As they flew, Oriola had just committed to a pass on then-race leader Giacomo Altoè, but the race officials deemed that Valente should have seen the flags and backed out from following his team mate through.

Colciago’s penalty was for overtaking James Nash on the final lap of the race into Turn 1, with the flags having been out for the stranded car of Ferenc Ficza.

The change means that Davit Kajaia now has a six-point championship lead over Attila Tassi, with the gap having briefly been at three points over Pepe Oriola before the penalties were applied.

Valente misses out on his maiden TCR podium, and instead leaves the Rustavi International Circuit having collected just two points for his race two finish, which was ninth overall as a result.

Colciago failed to collect any points from race two, with the penalty dropping him to 12th and he leaves Georgia with 13 points in total from race one and qualifying.
