Defending British Touring Car champion Gordon Shedden is anticipating longer qualifying runs to combat traffic issues around the narrow 1.2 mile Indy circuit at Brands Hatch.
Shedden, who is yet to show his hand in a brace of practice sessions topped by Speedworks’ Tom Ingram, also called for drivers under blue flag conditions to move well off the racing line for faster cars to pass without hindrance to lap time.
He is also unsure as to what tyre strategy Halfords Yuasa Racing will employ to maximize their available tyres without wasting time in traffic behind slower cars.
“Everyone’s in the same boat, we’ve just got to make the best of it,” admitted Shedden to TouringCars.net
“But everyone needs to come back and actually clear off the racing line to let you past. That’s not really doing a great deal [to help].”
“It’s just your luck, isn’t it? You just have to be out there at the right time and make the best of it when you get a clear lap, but it’s not going to be ideal for anybody. It’ll work for somebody!”
He admitted the changing track conditions at Brands Hatch had made it difficult to get a definitive handle on setup, but remained optimistic Honda were in the right ballpark to challenge for pole position this afternoon.
“We’re just trying to find what we need, the track is changing quite a bit but we’re there or thereabouts I would think.”
