Andrew Jordan looking for setup tweaks after first B48 engine runs

Andrew Jordan is looking to refine the chassis setup of his BMW 125i M Sport after a positive first run with his new B48 engine unit during the first British Touring Car Championship practice session of the new season.

All three manufacturer-backed BMW machines finished the session in the top six, with Jordan sandwiched between his new team-mates Rob Collard and Colin Turkington in third, some 0.139 seconds adrift of pace-setter Tom Ingram.

Jordan, who along with Turkington is running the latest power unit from Neil Brown Engineering for the very first time, fed back positively on it’s pace and reliability, whilst paying tribute to West Surrey Racing for their efforts.

“We’re just working on a bit of driveability with the throttle map and things like that, but it all feels good and it’s testament to West Surrey Racing that all three have just rolled out and are on the pace, reliability so far is good. They’ve put a lot of hours in to get them up and running, so it’s all good so far” Jordan told TouringCars.net

He also admitted the pace demonstrated during the first practice session may be the extent of BMW Pirtek Racing’s capabilities during this weekends triple-header of contests at Brands Hatch.

“I think that is as much as we’ve got there,” said Jordan. “The car feels good, we’re just working on some setup stuff as well but we need to make sure reliability is there with the engine, which is has been so far. We’re just focused on our chassis really and we’ll let the engine guys at Neil Brown do what they want to do with that – good progress so far.”

With light rain briefly affecting circuit conditions during the opening exchanges, Jordan largely avoided the issue by spending the majority of the session scrubbing tyres for the rest of the weekend.

He hopes, however, to see a greater variance in lap times across the 32-strong field on raceday for the sake of spectacle.

“We scrubbed tyres for a lot of the session and only did ten laps at the end as a proper run so the drop-off [in performance] didn’t seem big at all, which you’d expect with this big a tyre,

“I’m hoping on race day there’s more of a variety in people’s lap times, rather than cars going round with the same lap time all the time. It should make for good racing.”
